The Schooner Suva and her experienced crew can provide a wide choice of sailing adventures in the beautiful waters of Puget Sound and its connecting waters. We have comfortable accommodations in heated cabins and a gourmet chef  and professional cook to prepare fabulous meals of local Washington meats, seafood and produce. Relax and enjoy the trip or help with the sailing and navigation.  There is abundant wildlife, and we often spot marine mammals such as seals, orcas or even the occasional whale. Explore the islands and secluded anchorages of the San Juan Islands and discover the fascinating history of the area.

History

The Schooner Suva spent her entire life on Puget Sound and was designed for Frank Pratt of Pratt & Whitney Engines and built almost entirely of old growth teak. Including the hull planking, framing, backbone, and cabin. Originally rigged as a gaff schooner, she now uses a staysail schooner rig. The 68ft yacht was refitted at the Port Townsend Shipwrights Co-op. recaulked the entire hull, replaced and lengthened the bow sprit and boomkin in purple heart.  The Schooner "Suva" was designed by the very well known Yacht designer Ted Geary for his client Frank Pratt (of Pratt and Whitney Aircraft Engines).   Built in China in 1925 she has been specifically designed for the Pacific Northwest and British Columbia with her classic pilothouse and all teak interior with cozy diesel heat. She has proven herself to be the perfect yacht for year 'round sailing.

Accomodations

Shipboard accommodations include single bunks located in the salon.  In the front of the ship called the fo'c'sle there is a private cabin available upon request, with a double bunk and private access to the bathroom and stops every other day for a hot shower ashore.  The Suva also features central heating and a warm pilot house for viewing wildlife when underway.

This schooner has lots of room to lounge on deck and take in the sights. A large pilot house is a great place to curl up with a book or a cup of coffee. Her salon has a large dining room table to enjoy good meals and conversations.

Three savory home cooked meals are served buffet style daily, featuring fresh northwest ingredients. Afternoon snacks with soft drinks, tea and coffee are always available.  Although alcohol is not served, you are welcome to bring alcholic drinks of your choice.
